Paul Hümpel
Born 1945 in
Tuba
Member since 01.09.1975
At first Paul Hümpel had »two strings to his bow« and studied both tuba and double from 1961 to 1964 at the Hamburg Musikhochschule. Even in first engagement, at the Oldenburg Staatstheater (1966-69), he was responsible for the two different instruments. Not until his appointment in 1969 to the Stuttgart Staatsoper did he finally devote himself entirely to the tuba. After a period at the Hamburg Staatsoper (1973-75), he came to the Berliner Philharmoniker. Paul Hümpel has for many years been a member of Berlin Philharmonic Brass Ensemble and a teacher in the Orchestra Academy.
