Friends of the Berliner Philharmoniker

The Association of the Friends of the Philharmonic Hall is a non-profit organization founded in 1949, then with the particular goal of erecting a new home for the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Their initiative and provision of a considerable amount of funds, were decisive factors leading to the building of the Philharmonic Hall, the finishing of the Chamber Music Hall, and the purchase of harpsichords and concert pianos. A bust of Karajan by Professor Baier (Hallein) donated by the association was unveiled in a special ceremony, and now has its place in the south foyer of the Philharmonic Hall.

Now that these goals have been achieved, the association has the following objectives:

  • the further furbishment of the Chamber Music Hall
  • supporting special artistic projects of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra
  • providing support for young musicians
  • the upkeep of orchestral traditions, and the maintenance of records relevant to the history of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra
