1977 opera debut at the Glyndebourne Festival, since then collaborations with various famous opera houses, for example the English National Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Netherlands Opera and leading international orchestras
1980 Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser, September 1990 to 1998 Music Director of the City of Birmingham Orchestra
1981 to 1994 Principal Guest Conductor Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra
1987 Conducting debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker with Mahlers Sixth Symphony
