Home / Berliner Philharmoniker / Orchester-Akademie e.V. / Educational Concept
The professional training offered by the Academy is both a post-graduate programme and an "internship". (A broad, well-rounded musical education with highly specialised instruction is combined with unique "hands-on" practical experience under the same demanding conditions confronting members of the Berlin Philharmonic.) The training period is two years.
The Academy programme consists of:
The teachers include the Orchestra's concertmasters/leaders, and section principals.
Chamber music occupies a particularly prominent place at the Academy - not only because of its crucial significance to each member of the Philharmonic. Primary objective of the lessons is to provide an approach to the specific musical material of each instrument. There are work phases concentrating on early and contemporary music. Moreover, the standard repertory of classic, romantic and modern music is acquired in the orchestral context where all instruments of the Academy concur. Every season five public concerts take place in the Philharmonie.
The Orchester-Akademie provides study places for all orchestra instruments.
